Star Trek’s Most Devastating Event Will Finally Be Fully Told (With A Twist)

In David Carson’s film in 1994 “Star Trek: Generations”, Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) found himself deposited in a mysterious temporal bond, a magic space phenomenon that tears up people and niche in a pocket dimension similar to a paradise. Time has no meaning in the link, which means that people can almost spend eternity inside without any time to pass through the outside universe. 87 years after Kirk was snatched, Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) is also hung, and also lives briefly in this paradise. Picard, however, is responsible for thinking. He must prevent a crazy scientist named Dr. Soren (Malcolm McDowell) from destroying a star and killing millions. Because there is no time in the link, he and Kirk have technically arrived at the same time. Picard convinces Kirk to leave the link, and they have Dr. Soren Combat together.

In the fight, however, Kirk walks on a rugging gateway and falls to his death. His last words to Picard are: “It was fun.” Picard buried it under a pile of rocks and probably leaves it there to decompose.

Of course, Kirk has risen from small non -canonical ways. In William Shatner’s novel in 1995 “The Return” ,,,, Kirk’s body is located and resurrected by the Borg, operating under pressure from the Romules (!). More recently, fans have seen Kirk crossing life after death (?) In a non -canonical short film in 2023 called “765874: unification”. The same year, in an episode of “Star Trek: Picard”, Kirk’s body was declared canonically declared was indeed recovered from the planet where he died and was kept in a cold storage in a secret Starfleet Black site.

Extrapolating from this last story, a new comic strip IDW will again resuscitate James T. Kirk, this time several hundred years beyond the “next generation” era. According to a new press release, the new story will be called “The Last Starship”.

The last ship will see James T. Kirk and his experiences with the burn

Idw Publishing’s “Star Trek” comics must be noted, are also non -canonical, so “The Last Starship” is only a provocative possibility for the character. The comic strip will be written by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, and designed by Adrián Bonilla.

According to the description of the press release, “The Last Starship” will see Kirk’s body found on the Black Starfleet site and resurrected in one way or another, using ultra-advanced technology. The story takes place in the year 3069, 698 years after the events of “Star Trek: Generations”. Kirk will be resurrected just in time to attend the burn, an event described in The third season of “Star Trek: Discovery”. It seems that in 3069, an unusual cataclysm on the scale of the galaxy will come up against unexpectedly. Each spacecraft with dilithium crystals on board (that is to say almost all) will explode spontaneously. The cataclysm puts roughly civilization as we know it, bringing down the federation and a widespread trade system based on money and slavery increases in its place.

The third season of “Discovery” takes place approximately 120 years after the burn. It seems that “the last vessel” will take place when it happens. Kirk will obviously take command of a new 31st century vessel populated by all the new characters. It will be Kirk’s work to understand the new future in which he is, but also to try to keep as much damaged federation as possible.

It’s a fun idea. Faithful minds would be necessary after burns, so why not be James T. Kirk? After all, we know where his body is. Certainly, in the 30th century, technology was developed to make it life in Frankenstein.

What the authors say

Kelly, one of the writers, said the following in a press release:

“The only familiar face is the one you never expect to see at that time: Captain James T. Kirk. […] William Shatner’s emblematic performance transcends borders. Kirk is one of the great characters in the cannon of modern fiction, with a matching actor. He was also the first character of “Star Trek” that we have ever written – a warrior leader and poet with a boundary tragedy and contradiction. Now we are honored to take this character in revolutionary territory really unexplored in “The Last Starship”.

However, the authors wanted to assure the public that “the last vessel” will not be island or obscure for non-trekkies. Of course, Trekkies will have a practical knowledge of “Star Trek: Generations”, “Star Trek: Picard”, and the third season of “Star Trek: Discovery”, but it seems that all the necessary general information will be provided in the comic strip of Kelly and Lanzig. The only thing the readers will have to know is James T. Kirk, and, well, we all know, right?

“The Last Starship” should make its debut on September 24, 2025. It will be the first of a new batch of comic strips “Star Trek” by IdW Publishing, a line that will also include new stories inspired by “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” and “Star Trek: travel.” Again, these stories are not canonical, but it has always been fun for trekkies to speculate on countless “and if?” Scenarios. The comics, such as video games and novels, are only more stories with our favorite “trek” characters, and we are delighted as much as possible.
