This article contains spoilers To “how to train your dragon”.
The public got used to the idea that beloved animated films obtain live treatment as soon as possible. Disney has built an entire industry to translate them from one support to another, with mixed results. Some large ones slide through the meshes of the net like “101 dalmations”, “Cinderella” and “Pete’s Dragon”, but for the most part, These are largely forgettable companies that somehow manage to continue to earn money at the box office, because there is not much competition for family entertainment in Tentpole. It is an intelligent company, although lazy, that makes sense when you look at the monetary advantages. Through this prism, the only surprise of DreamWorks who followed the step with a live remake of “How to train Your Dragon” is that they did not do it earlier.
The series of fantastic action-adventure is undoubtedly one of DreamWorks’ most coherent franchises, with three animated films acclaimed by criticism and combined transport of $ 1.6 billion to its credit. Dean Deblois, co -director of the original “How to Train Your Dragon”, returns to make the same film essentially, although the scribe “Lilo & Stitch” Chris Sanders. It is a completely faithful remake (in every sense of the word), working roughly the same script and the same filming compositions of the 2010 film, Slavishly. For some, hearing John Powell’s sweeping score against the steeped shift in the sky will be enough to get on board. / Ethan Anderton of the film comes to the heart of this in his criticismBut should be an unnecessary recutation of a classic film.
But that doesn’t really matter. “How to train your dragon” will probably blow up the summer box office And pave the way to more remakes live from the animated library of DreamWorks. A few months ago to Cinemacon a few months ago, Universal showed total confidence in the viability of the franchise by projecting not only the film in 2025 for those present, but also announcing the remake of “How to Train Your Dragon 2”, which already had a defined release date of June 11, 2027. They know you will see it.
It gave the impression that Deblois already knew that he was in the game of remake “how to train your dragon” for the long term. Each of the animated films was planned separately, but now these films could plant lighter seeds for future payments. There are not many new things in the remake of 2025, but a few additional lines give an additional context to the place where “How to Train Your Dragon 2” will probably go.
How to train your dragon signals the arrival of Valka, Hiccup’s mother
When we resume with hiccups “How to train your 2014 dragon 2”, “ He crossed a considerable transformation of Scrawny Viking which could not kill a dragon, with the potential chief of Berk. In the midst of an identity crisis pretending to be an adventure, Hiccup meets a mysterious figure masked straddling a Cloud Jumper, who finally turned out to be his mother, Valka (Cate Blanchett). She was presumed to be dead, having disappeared for 20 years, but it turns out that she cultivates a safe space for the dragons far from her old house.
In the 2010 film, the only mention of Hiccup’s mother is in a brief scene where Stoick the vast (Gerard Butler), the only character to be played by the same actor in the two versionsGrants a Viking helmet to the clumsy adolescent who was partially built with half of his plastron. Dark delivery of Stoick insinuated that she has died since. This same scene is in the film 2025, practically word for word. We learn in “How to Train Your Dragon 2”, however, that Valka was taken by a Cloud Jumper who initially showed compassion for a hosquet baby during an attack on the village. She finally chose not to come back because her dragon sympathies did not align themselves with the rest of Berk, believing that Hiccup and Stoick would be better without his presence.
However, there are other references that refer to his fate in the second episode to come. Stoick and his best friend Gobber (Nick Frost) discuss the lack of dragon hunting enthusiasm in Hiccup (Mason Thames), the first saying that he obtains the obstinate attitude of his mother. “Look at what happened to him,” he said. Anyone who has already seen the continuation of 2014 already knows what this is being about.
Another line of additional dialogue to indicate the public in the future appearance of Valka is when Stoick reprimands his son with angry after having been similar sympathies for winged creatures. “They took your mother for the love of God,” said Stoick live, just before entering the “They killed hundreds of us” of the animated film. Each mention of Valka, although never by name, practically states another battered recreation of his character in the next remake in 2027. But there is a slight possibility that Deblois can go in a very different direction.
Hiccup’s mother has taken different forms
In the early stages of development of “How Train Your Dragon 2″ of 2014, ” Valka would not only be revealed as the long lost mother of Hiccup, but the secret secondary antagonist of the film. His maternal instincts were relieved after learning that he was responsible for the initial slaughter of Krokmou, confirming his convictions that humanity is a threat to the security of all dragons. Valka would summon the Bewilderbeast to release the assortment of dragons by Berk for his sanctuary. “The Hidden World” would have reconciled the character with Hiccup after accepting Hiccup’s true admiration for creatures. Makeing Valka a villain would throw fans of original films, but it would be a refreshing change of rhythm that could actually throw the public to the devoid according to their previous knowledge and deepen the journey of this character. In the 2014 film, Hiccup does not really fight with his absence in his life after learning their shared kinship for the prosperity of the Dragon.
The other option, but less likely, for the incorporation of Valka into the films could be in the series of Cowell Cowell books which inspired them. The two adaptations of “how to train your dragon” are radically different in part because the winged animals are in contradiction with the Vikings, as opposed to the books. Valka, who is called Valhallarama, is also absent during most of Hiccup’s life. The crucial difference is that it was not kidnapped by dragons. Valhallarama is mainly during the quests of most of the series, and does not really become a fixed presence in the life of Hiccup in the last books.
Crowell’s young adults for young adults are full of a completely different set of rules and mythology that it is difficult to see Deblois from it. I strongly doubt that they consider one of them, considering how boring it is on the original film, but I will be pleasantly surprised if it was proven.
“How to train your dragon” is now playing in theaters nationwide.
