Fleetwood, 34, won his first title on Sunday, August 24, winning the championship of the tour at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.

Rose, 45, shared a photo of himself from his place near the 18th green via social networks on Sunday, explaining what he did to see his friend finally taste the victory.

Fleetwood became pro in 2010 and, despite many tight calls over the years, had never won a tournament on the PGA Tour.

Fleetwood later told journalists that the moment, years in the making, meant for him.

He added: “I had to have a mental strength in a different way. I had to be resilient in terms of recovering up there, getting back in this position, no matter how many times it is wrong, no matter how many doubts could slip. Think of good things, say good things to yourself, say good things outside, and I am really delighted that I can be proof that if you do all the right things and that you continue to do.
