The Hit Will Smith Thriller That Almost Received A Television Spin-Off

The 1990s were a golden era for paranoid Conspiracy thrillersMany of them who exploit people’s distrust of the government and the authorities. From the “clear danger and present” the fugitive “, the decade has generated a slew of films on shabby concealations and the innocent people wrongly accused of crimes they did not commit, which led to on -board entertainment of the siege which gave cinemas of reflection. One of the best in the group, the “State enemy” led by Tony Scott, “ Sees Will Smith and Gene Hackman (who could have taken over his character from “The Conversation”) play outsiders who unite their forces to eliminate corrupt politicians and the National Security Agency – and he almost received a television spin -off.

In the film, Smith plays Robert Clayton Dean, a lawyer who maintains to exhibit the truth behind the assassination of a member of the Congress. In short, the official was struck by his political opponents in the NSA for a bill, and Dean has the evidence to expose the truth. As you can imagine, the real killers do not want to be exposed, and they do everything in their power to track the lawyer. Fortunately for Dean, he has an ally in the form of Brill (Hackman), a former NSA employee who knows how to counter the agency’s dirty tacticals.

“Enemy of the State” is a thrill promenade which draws from subjects such as government corruption and the state of surveillance, which are both always relevant to date. In this spirit, it is easy to imagine a contemporary series that explores these ideas through a modern lens with a certain potential. However, in the end, the television show “Enemy of the State” was simply not intended for being.

The enemy of the State TV series has teased a controversial premise

Although a television series “Enemy of the State” has the potential to be relevant in the modern era, it is also logical from a commercial point of view. The original film was a success at the box office, and it is still well after all these years. Back in 2016, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Jerry Bruckheimer produced a sequel to small screen, decades after the original film, for ABC. Morgan Foehl was exploited to write the script, which would have told the story of an FBI lawyer and an agent who joined a conspiracy after a spying.

Although the details of the story were maintained near the vest, the premise could have been inspired by the scandal concerning the former NSA entrepreneur, Edward Snowden, the documents fleeing on government surveillance in 2013. In the end, the project has never materialized for any reason, but a spectacle on lubrication and corrupt surveillance states could have been too controversial.

When writing these lines, the proposed series seems to be dead in the water, but never say. “Enemy of the State” found new streaming fans after Hackman’s deathAnd this success cannot hurt in the drum of the interest of people to see more stories told in this universe. For the moment, however, we should not have our hopes.
