This message contains spoilers For “Jurassic World Rebirth”.
With the release of “Jurassic World Rebirth” by director Gareth Edwards, “we are now seven films in this longtime franchise filled with Dino, going back to the original blockbuster of Steven Spielberg” Jurassic Park “. This film took place largely on Isla Nublar off the coast of Costa Rica, where John Hammond was intended to open his park Theme of Dinosaur before the catastrophe and the idea has been closed.
In the first trailer of “Jurassic World Rebirth”, “ Zora Bennett de Scarlett Johansson explains that “this island was the research center for the original Jurassic Park”. Although the film itself does not plunge into the full history of the island, we learn key things about its history and how it is part of the broader “Jurassic” chronology. In short, it was a key location for Hammond’s original park and the world of Jurassic.
The film’s opening scene returns 17 years, showing us an incident on Ile Saint-Hubert while Jurassic World was operational. Geneticists worked on various hybrid dinosaurs that could help keep the park more interesting, which finally brought us the Indominus Rex. However, They first created the mutant distortus rex, alias the d-rexwhich breaks the confinement thanks to, of all things, an Snickers packaging. A scientist is eaten. Things get havoc.
From that moment, the installation was apparently abandoned, but many dinosaurs that were created there have managed to live, not Bothers by humanity and left to fend for itself. As the film explains, many of the Dinosaurs that have traveled the planet since the end of “Dominion” were dying, because the earth is not welcoming for them. Those who remain can only exist near the equator.
Ile Saint-Hubert is an important place in the history of the Jurassic Park
Contrary to Isla Nublar or Isla Sorna, alias site B as appearing in “The Lost World” and “Jurassic Park III”, “ Who were located near Costa Rica, Ile Saint-Hubert is located in the Caribbean near the Barbados. It is located near the equator, which means that the dinosaurs may have existed there comfortably. Unlike the Dinosaurs of Isla Nublar, which were removed from the island or who died on it during the volcanic eruption which suffered it on the map in “Fallen Kingdom”, this island has been largely intact for almost two decades.
Once again, the film leaves a large part of the history of the island in the air, but the involvement is that it is the island where Ingen fell in love with the recreation of dinosaurs to make the reality of theme Hammond. After the events of “The Lost World”, Simon Masrani and Masrani Global Buyed Ingen in 1998 and started to hatch plans to open Jurassic World. The park finally opened in 2005. Masrani reused the island to carry out other experiences for the park. More particularly, hybrid dinosaurs.
Aside from the D-REX, the scientists of the island also designed the mutadons, which appear in a good place in the third act of “Renaissance” and were created using a mixture of Véloiraptor and DNA of Pterosaur. These animals never arrived at the park because they were “too dangerous”. As well as many other dinosaurs than Masrani and Ingen left after the D-Rex incident.
It is important to emphasize that all the dinosaurs we see in “Rebirth” are new in one way or another. This island has never been explored in any of the previous “Jurassic” films, so even if we had seen some of these same species of dinosaurs that we had seen before, the specific we see on the screen are new. We have already seen T-rexes, but even it is a different T-Rex. Even the Spinosaurus that we see is different from the one we met in “Jurassic Park III”. It’s a bit like the island of unsuitable dinosaurs.
Could the franchise return to Ile Saint-Hubert in the future?
The film ends with the majority of survivors leaving the island, except Krebs (friend Rupert). Unlike “Jurassic World” of 2015, which clearly set up a potential trilogy, it was more an autonomous adventure without a major loose to link. It is a cousin close to “Jurassic Park III” That way.
This raises the question: could Saint-Hubert return in the future? In the current state of things, Universal has not announced any plan for another suite, Although “rebirth” seems to be doing fairly well at the box office. As is always the case in Hollywood, if something succeeds, a sequel will probably follow. Whether or not it is a more direct suite of this film or another adventure with more new characters remains to be seen. Edwards has left things quite open and did not put the studio in a specific story that must be told.
There is also the question of animated programs like “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory” on Netflix. Who knows? Perhaps these characters will somehow go to Ile Saint-Hubert. Perhaps the next film will finally bring us back to site B after all these years, because this is largely unexplored since “JP3”. There are options for the future, but the simple existence of this new island suggests that there is no longer to explore, if universal decides that it is the right thing to do.
Even if the future of the franchise is not centered on Ile Saint-Hubert, its most significant contribution to the franchise was to make something new to the table which could open the door to more line, an additional explanation of this island or elsewhere.
“Jurassic World Rebirth” is now in theaters.
