The Ad Movie Is Here And It’s Not Going Away

Last year, I saw this Super Bowl advertisement for missed video games Suicide Squad: Kill Justice League. It was your standard rate: celebrities centered on the comic effect to try to sing something without soul. But while I was watching it, I said to myself: “It’s creative a creative way with many real films these days.”

This led me to start using the term “advertising film” when you describe certain projects on the horizon. With the overwhelming success of A Minecraft Movie And some recent casting news that I am going to search later, I think it’s time to accept that pop culture has adopted the entire advertising film and we are all the poorer for that.

Define the advertising film

border districts

Before we can analyze this phenomenon, we must give an “advertising film” an appropriate definition. I am sure that such a simple label can be applied in several ways by anyone who wants to use it, but I want to give it a certain specificity for my argument.

First of all, an advertising film is a production where there is a defined and forward -oriented brand at the heart of the reason of the film for existence. This seems largely applicable to any established property which obtains a film, so let us perceive it in something more concrete: an advertising film is a film where the property being ruptured priority on a strong creative reason for the existing project.

Thus, while Superman is undeniably a mascot for the Dc Brand, James Gunn’s new film seems to have much more in his mind than printing t-shirts or selling comics.

This is another facet that should define the advertising film: the film exists to filter viewers to another centralized medium of the brand, thus acting as an advertisement for another product. This is why so many video game films are condemned to be advertising films. This is why it is rare to see adaptations of video game movies that make the arguments strong enough for their existence as a cinematographic narrative experiences. They are not really supposed to be that. They are supposed to act as a momentum so that you can play (read: buy) the game. This is not limited to video game movies – I will be shocked if Match match Does not correspond to the bill on the advertising film – but they are faced with the most difficult battle with the problems of advertising films because they are cooked in the very nature of this kind of adaptation.

Mushrooms speak

The last piece of definition is a troubled problem with which I do not feel completely married, but since the Suicide Squad: Kill Justice League is the thing that did me on this path, I think that advertising films in this context should only apply to live action functionalities. Of course, you can lob accusations of advertising films worthy to The film Super Mario Bros. Or The film Angry BirdsBut the art of animation itself is such a different support for expressing ideas and which is inevitably more clever by its simple nature of being “drawn”.

In my book, advertising films are films that are revealed as extensive advertisements of the Super Bowl: comicly focused, the celebrities loaded and filmed live for a maximum human presence in the most inhuman artistic effort possible, an ad. Think Border districts And now you understand.

The rise and the rise of the advertising film

Sharon Stone Barbie

With our definition in writing so that everyone can discuss, it is time to see exactly why we adopted the advertising film as a culture. Although there have been many films and productions focused on advertising over the years, the advertising film does not really reach outsourcing before Barbie.

Now, to be clear, Barbie To all the features of an advertising film, but like most things in Hollywood, this is the exception to the rule that everyone wants to copy. But, they do it by doing everything wrong that Barbie did well. Barbie is intrinsically an advertising film, but he finds many valid creative and thematic reasons, even if she never completely launches her nature as an advertising film.

But, it made all the money, so it will be a model to move forward for the studios. Which brings us to another massive success and in the greatest case for the definition of the advertising film: A minecraft film. I am not here to debate the perceived quality of this film, but I would say that welcoming it in a serious cinematographic discussion indicates the way in which we have become more and more accepting long advertisements as a legitimate cinema on the human condition.

Buy the new Street Fighter ™ game after seeing the new Street Fighter ™ movie

Which brings me to recent casting news on Street-combatant. With each new information that comes out, it becomes more and more clear that this new attempted film version of the emblematic combat game goes to the way to the advertising film and jumps with Glee along the way. If you told me 50 centsRoman Reigns, Orville Peck, David Dastmalchian, and A minecraft filmThe own Jason Momoa was designed respectively as Balrog, Akuma, Vega, Mr. Bison and Blanka, I guess it was for a super bowl ad for the new video game.

Because it’s this Street-combatant will probably end up being at the end of the day. It does not look like a project from a creative voice telling a story that must be told. It’s just another product that hopes to hang more people in its brand.

Advertising and marketing are an inevitable evil in a world where art must be filtered through capitalism, but hope is always that artists are able to push something through the system that makes more than content or product. Maybe Street-combatant will surprise and enlighten something deep in humanity. Everything is possible!

But if the reaction to Street-combatantThe casting of the case is an indication, people seemed really excited for a two -hour Super Bowl advertisement. I guess it is the future on which we have decided to hang our cultural cart. For all the complaints I see on things like AMC warning customers of excessive advertisements before the presentation of featuresThis same audience seems to line up around the block to watch the new advertising film.

Are we about to see a world where Bratz Is reappearing as a poorly understood masterpiece?
