They Couldn’t Have Picked A Worse Time To Announce The Stand Movie

Stephen King is my favorite author. It has always been a very good time to be a fan of his works and also a giant Dork film because King’s Stories continuously gets adaptations of studio features.

And this year looks like an absolute star for her filmography. My Favorite film of the year So far, Osgood Perkins’ The monkeyA wild interpretation of King’s news of the same name. We also obtain films in 2025 on the basis of two of my favorite King novels of all time (written under his pseudonym Richard Bachman), The long walk And The racing man.

And if these trailers of these films are honest representations of their end products, it will be a record year for us, the constant readers.

This is why the announcement of a new cinematographic adaptation of Stand is undoubtedly the most stupid and the most dumbering Film Stephen King News that could never happen.

Moon, it spends stupid

Chaos Walking Tom Holland Doug Liman

Doug Liman was revealed as the director of a new film adaptation in the studio of the epic and historical novel by Stephen King, Stand. When it was recently announced, it immediately mentioned all the reasons in my mind why it was a bad idea as opposed to a good one.

First of all, do Stand In a film immediately raises red flags for fans. History is a sprawling epic that needs a lot of time to tell its story. Trying to condense a large part of the work of the character of the novel and plotting in a feature film length format is an intimidating and intrinsically imperfect company. Even if they have divided the film into two parts (what I expect), it’s just the bad format for a story that depends so much on many interactions of in -depth characters over a significant period of time.

Without forgetting that the involvement of Doug Liman is also doubtful in terms of potential quality. It is not that Liman is a director inevitably bad or without interest, but I would say that he has exceeded his peak. His latest valid film was over a decade ago and Edge of tomorrowManagement is not what makes this film a pleasant cult favorite. And I guess everyone launches collectively Chaos Marche And Relay in a memory hole against which I cannot discuss.

Look, Stand is a phenomenal story and certainly deserves an adaptation that will do it justice. Admittedly, the 1994 mini-series may not have aged well, but it is completely commendable to do its best to deliver a faithful adaptation. And although we apparently (and correctly) have abandoned the limited series 2020, it certainly resembles Stand has already had some bites on the cinematographic apple.

Part of what makes this year so exciting for King fans is to see the stories that have not been well shaken before. The long walk is a film that has been trying to be made for decades. The monkey is a news that had never seen the light of the silver screen before (no, I do not recognize The Devil’s Gift / The Merlin Mystical Wonders Boutique). Yes, The racing man I was transformed into an Arnold vehicle and I love its brand of charming Lunkhead, but it is exceptionally far from the real story of the novel. Edgar Wright’s film gives Bachman’s novel its first blow to be properly represented and translated into a film.

Drop the bomb of “We do Stand! … Again! “In the middle of a year with so many Stephen King adaptations is a moment that does not read the room. The girl who loved Tom Gordon? In ecstasy! Laika has announced a hitchhiking feature of Dragon’s eyes? Prodigious! There are still so many King stories that have not made their way to the screen, so get another riff on Stand is a betrayal of these potential projects.

Make your position

The stand mini-series

If Doug Liman is Stand ends up performing, I sincerely hope that I am wrong. I hope it is the best adaptation to this day and it is so good that it does Misery look like Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond cyberspace. I will not get my hopes, but I will leave the possibility that it is a third riff worthy of the book.

Maybe it is an unpopular opinion, but Stand is actually one of King’s stories which, I think, is the best at home in its original medium. It is not something that I consider obviously cinematographic. Not that he cannot be, but it is a best filmed thread through the word written on the page.

They will do Stand No matter what I write on the internet so that I cannot pray that it is interesting. But here I will be refreshing the news to see if I can anticipate a Stephen King film that I have never seen before.
