As its heavy and largely marketed title suggest, The film spin-off “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina” widens the world of the action franchise led by Keanu Reeves. Featuring Ana de Armas, the film brings its own choreography and elegantly executed action parts In an adventure of overall revenge. However, with South Korean programs and films, or K-Dramas, continuing to find success worldwide, Netflix has its revenge film that fans of “John Wick” should check. Ironically, this film is also and more succinctly entitled “Ballerina”, although completely unrelated to the American film franchise, weaving its own autonomous tale of revenge.

The Korean “ballerina” follows the old professional bodyguard jang ok-ju (Jeon Jong-Seo), who undertakes to avenge his best friend Choi Min-Hee (Park Yu-Rim). Min-Hee had been the victim of the sexual trafficker and the Choi Pro gangster (Kim Ji-Hoon), who regularly rapes and extorts women by blackmail, threatening to publish videos illegally filmed assaults. According to Choi Pro Down, Ok-Ju pretends to be his last victim to turn the tables for him, putting the villain on the defensive. This quarrel degenerates to include the entire sex and drug trafficking ring of Choi Pro, while OK-Ju embarks on a violently exhausting crusade to take the executioner of his friend and his associates.

As the synopsis above suggests, the Korean “ballerina” is extremely different from the franchise “John Wick”, but this is why fans of American action films will be delighted.

Given its narrative accent on sexual assault, Korean “ballerina” is a darker and rawing story of revenge that is certainly not for sensitive viewers on the subject. However, what he does, that does very well, with Jeon Jong-Seo bringing a determination to steel eyes to his main role. This singular concentration and this professionalism in combat evoke the roles of Keanu Reeves and Ana de Armas in the franchise “John Wick”, but with a more visibly founded realism. There are no dark assassin organizations with their own rules, fancy hotels or bulletproof combinations, simply plotted in revenge with conventional weapons.

When “Ballerina” most like films “John Wick” in his global presentation, in particular with regard to his cinematography and musical score. Composed by the South Korean rapper and music producer Gray, the soundtrack “ballerina” has the same pulsed rhythm and sound sensitivity Like Tyler Bates’ work Component for films “John Wick”.
