Professional tennis player Petra Kvitova will retire after the next US Open.
The former world champion of tennis number 2, 35, announced her imminent retirement after 19 years via A long Instagram statement Made on Thursday, June 18.
“Growing up in my hometown of Fulnek and hitting the first tennis bullets with my father on local courts, I never imagined becoming a professional tennis player, being able to travel the world and play in the most beautiful stadiums in the world.

“I have had the privilege of reaching incredible heights in the past 19 years since I became a professional tennis player. To win my two Wimbledon championships, bringing six trophies from the King Billie Jean Cup for the Czech Republic, reaching the world ranking No. 2 and much more,” she wrote.
The Czech player added: “I accomplished more than I could never have imagined and I am so grateful to everything that tennis gave me all these years. It taught me countless lessons, not only in the field or in the gymnasium, but also in life.

“Like all the phases of life, there is one day when it is time for a new chapter, and this moment for me has come now. So I wanted to share with you that 2025 is my last season on tour as a professional. I am excited and very impatient to enjoy the beauty of playing the championships, she added. “And even if I am not entirely sure what my swing will look like the rigid zone in the United States, I intend to end my active player career at the US Open in New York later this summer.”
Kvitova also shared his gratitude for her relatives, her teammates and her fans as she concluded her emotional announcement.
“Although no decision is never easy to make, for me, it’s a happy moment! I will leave sport with the biggest smile on my face – the same smile you have seen from me on and outside the field throughout my career,” concluded the athlete. “During all these years, I am incredibly grateful for the unwavering support of my family, my closest friends, my team and all the incredible fans who have always supported me in the world during all these years.
