The 2009 “Cougar Town” sitcom has never been a massive note; It was constantly on the verge of cancellation, ABC pulling the cord after season 3 and TBS which picked up and then pulling the cord in season 6. The show played the courteney cox of the “friends” as a main character Jules, but he never came from the fun watch that offered a lot of fun for fans for friends for friends.
For example, halfway in season 1, Lisa Kudrow appears as an average dermatologist from Jules. In the premiere of season 2, Jennifer Aniston stops to play the Jules therapist, and this character is not so pleasant either. Finally, Matthew Perry came in season 5, who asks Jules an appointment after having crushed his car; The scenario was very sweet since Perry and Cox had played lovers on “Friends” for his last five seasons.
All these cameras were unique and none of the characters were intended for stand-in-in for their “friends” counterparts, but there were still constant winks to the public throughout their scenes. The show treated their appearances as special occasions, although they were not so special that they have alienated anyone who had not seen “friends” in advance. You can look at some clips of these cameos on YouTube, but honestly, it is better to watch the complete episodes themselves.
Cougar Town had not only reunion of friends; They did the same with the scrubs
Although “Cougar Town” is especially famous for its “Friends” connection via Courteney Cox, the show also attracted the attention of “scrubs” fans. After all, “Cougar Town” played Christa Miller, who played the deliciously nasty ex-wife of Dr Cox. “Cougar Town” was also co-created by Bill Lawrence, The same guy who created and directed “scrubs”. Not only did the two shows shared a lot of the same comic sensitivities, but season 3 presented an unofficial meeting for a lot of “scrubs” actors.
Sarah Chalke first presented herself as the love interest of Bobby Angie for a few episodes, then in season 3, episode 5, “A One Story Town”, Sam Lloyd resumed her role as Sad Sack nervous Ted. At the end of the episode, Ted panic because so many characters around him remind him of “the people of my old work”. He emphasizes that Angie looks very much like Elliot Reed and that Ellie by Christa Miller looks a lot like Jordan. He melts even worse when Ken Jenkins (who played Bob Kelso), Zach Braff (who played JD), and Robert Maschio (who played the Todd) appear in a quick succession. It is a soft scene, made even more emotional in the light of Lloyd’s passage in 2020.
ABED of the community also stopped at the cougar Town set
The craziest crossroads on “Cougar Town” was what happened with the Sitcom NBC “Community”, which was broadcast in the same years and face a similar struggle against low notes. In season 2 of “Community”, Abed becomes a superfan of “cougar Town”, and it is a race joke for several episodes. The joke culminates in “My Dinner With Abed” of season 2 of the end of season 2. There, ABED monologues on an experience that changes the life where he has won the chance to be on the set of “Cougar Town” and to play in the background of a scene. At the beginning, he was delighted to be in the show, but in the middle of the stage, he overestimated the situation and had a panic crisis, is solution on the set and having to run away in the toilet.
It was a funny monologueFunny by the way Abed really appears in the final of season 2 of “Cougar Town”. We can in fact see the character “community” do a terrible job in the background, before rushing in panic and surprising the main characters in the foreground:

This is only one of the many examples of the way in which “community” writers (and I suppose that “Cougar Town” writers) like to engage in the song. This scene has no meaning for viewers who did not know the “community”, but the two programs knew the connection simply because they thought it would be cool. The fact that the whole scene occurs outside a metro (a sandwich chain restaurant of great importance in the “community” tradition) no longer make it fresh.
