The parallels between “Lost” and the new HBO Max series “Duster” may seem that they start and end here. The Castaway series has represented one of the last dressings in Broadcast television, with a real overall distribution, a premise of high concept and a perfect blend of episodic and serialized narration which simply cannot be recreated these days. “Duster” looks like a return to more than one, bringing a refreshing old school mentality to the digital space both in style and approach. But he still cannot escape the veneer of a streaming show which, contrary to the popularity of “Lost” at its peak, seems to have been largely at the edge of the conversation of pop culture.

It is also a shame, because “Duster” has a lot to do that any fan “lost” will appreciate. Even beyond the high return of Holloway, the HBO Max series (Now formerly known as Max, thanks to the undecided decision -makers of Warner Bros. Discovery) also puts a modern turn on a classic story – an inner man forced to turn against his criminal family (adopted). There are complicated and unexpected stories intertwined, characters hiding great secrets and a winding plot with several great ideas ™ in mind. “Seede” will always be the closest thing to an apparent “lost” heir We will get, but “Duster” is not too far behind.

Where James “Sawyer” Ford was a conman exchanging identity with an incredibly disturbed past, Jim Ellis is a dedicated wheel man named Jim Ellis to the use of a Lord of the Crime (Ezra Saxton of Keith David) who may or may not be responsible for the brutal death of Jim’s beloved brother. The two characters rely on the damaged southern charms of Holloway to get everything they need, and the two often gain on the wrong side of the law. (The two are also used to confer nicknames to those whom they take over the same – “Freckles” constituted about half of Holloway’s dialogue on “Lost”, while the “Baltimore” is endearing which takes its place in “Duster”. In the case of “Lost”, it took a combination of several characters in several seasons gold.

“Duster” tells a separate story between two main protagonists in the Arizona of the 1970s: Jim Ellis and his links with the family of salets as a trusted driver, and Nina Hayes tries to be taken seriously as the first FBI black agent on the ground. Naturally, the two find themselves on a collision trajectory and must reluctantly unite their forces at the service of a common objective of exhibiting Ezra Saxton. JJ Abrams and the co-creator of Latoya Morgan know exactly how to balance the two scenarios, creating a fascinating cast of support and strikes on themes that end up doing perfectly.

For those who may have missed the first of the show in May in 2025, it is now as good as any one to jump aboard this moving train (or, rather, Red Plymouth Duster of Jim which gives the series its title). Three episodes, the tone and the construction of the world are already feeling correctly established. There are shabby cops bought and paid by saxton, wicked henchmen drawn directly from the “Breaking Bad” https://www.slashfilm.com/ “Better Call Saul” mold, and even an Elvis-Obsédé fixer played by “Seinfeld” Alum Patrick Warburton.
