The Classic Movie That Inspired Andor’s Luthen And Kleya Backstory

“Paper Moon” (based on the novel “Addie Pray” by Joe David Brown) takes place in the Kansas of the 1930s. It is distinguished by a precise black and white shooting, just like the previous film of Bogdanovich, “The Last Picture Show”. Ryan O’Neal plays the role of Moses “Moze” Pray, a crook posing as a biblical seller. After his knowledge and his unique lover Essie loggins die, he instructed to escort his daughter Addie (the real daughter of O’Neal Tatum) to his aunt in Missouri – because while he denies it, Moze is probably the father of Addie himself.

They “have the same jaw”, as several people note, and, of course, throwing a real pair of father and girl in the roles is a revealing choice. Although Moze and Addie do not get along often, they develop an undeniable link, and the clever added of the grass-year become not only the passenger of Moze but also his trading partner.

Now 52 years old, “Paper Moon” likes a praised heritage. It’s a little lighter than new contemporary Hollywood films like “The Godfather” or “Bonnie and Clyde” (“Paper Moon” East A comedy first) but no less excellent. Tatum O’Neal, who was nine years old when “Paper Moon” was created, is The youngest winner of the Oscars for her performance. Each film or series featuring a child and (substitute) child on the road together, from a “perfect world” to “Logan” to “The Last of Us” “The Mandalorian” has a “paper moon”.

Dulau, during the note of the comparison “Paper Moon”, Gilroy, said that she found the relationship between Kleya and Luthen much darker than Addie and Moze:

“Luthen came to the people of Kleya, and he helped destroy them all. This day can never be erased. He can never be forgotten. They cannot simply forgive and forget that; it is an event that is too huge. So, that darkness remains with them in a way that makes their history completely unique.

To continue the comparison: Moze is a philander, a criminal and still has a lot to learn about being a father when the credits roll, but it is not as if he had killed the mother of Addie. With Dulau’s words in mind, it feels like Kleya only came to love Luthen because He gave his life to his revenge. Their link was forged with the recognition they had done or experienced horrible things, respectively, and do not stop at anything to achieve justice.
