Mighty Morphin ‘Power Rangers was one of the greatest phenomena of science fiction pop culture in the 90s for children. If you were not there at the time, you cannot really understand the Gargantusen impact on its target audience.

The successful television series – which adapted images of the Japanese show Kyoryu Senai Zyurant – Finally led to a pair of theater feature films. And both are big stinks.

I say that as a person who saw these two films in the theater and loved them when I was a child, and I have the Kyoryu Senai Zyurant Series on DVD.

It is only when I discovered a different Japanese import that I found a series much better than Power Rangers (Sorry, Tommy), and it led me to a film that scratches much better than the Méga-Smashing and the Mega-Schash.

It’s time to be bio-boosted with Guyver: black heroes.

The guy started as a manga

The guy is from manga Bio-Booster Guyver armor by Yoshiki Takaya who finally made his way anime Through an original video animation (OVA) of 1986, and a series of ovas from 1989. These two anime projects are great and deserve to be sought for classical fans of anime science fiction Action and violence.

In 1991, an American cinematographic version of The guy was produced, co-directed by Steve Wang and one of my favorite artists of all time, screaming Mad George, better known for his practical work in films like Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master And Company.

Unfortunately, The guy (1991) falls flat in many ways, but excels in its combinations and monster effects. If you want to hear an in -depth criticism on this film, consult the episode of the genrevision Movie Club on The guy Wherever you get your podcasts.

The story of Guyver

All you need to know about the basic story is that a young man named Sean Barker finds a stranger Tech of technology that binds with him, giving him a super powerful costume which is first to beat the monsters which change the shape of the Kronos Corporation known as Zoanoides.

The guy succeeded enough in the exit to get a suite. It is certain that video sales and home rental were what made it happen. UGH, we live in a world where a low budget gender film gorged The guy could get a suite thanks to the video store.

Guyver: Dark Hero obtains a lower budget but a best actor

Guyver: black heroes Drop the “” of the title among a few other cuts from the first film. Criri Mad George is not returned directly, leaving Steve Wang as the only director credited with the second entry. It comes with a degradation of the effects but not to a degree of revolution. It’s so clear Guyver: black heroes has an even lower budget than the first film, but Wang is more than capable of operating his budget for him.

The previous main actor Jack Armstrong is also absent, replaced by …

David Hayter?!?

Yes, Solid Snake himself, the man with scenario credits X-Men 2 And Guards Step in the role of Sean Barker. And look, I’m realistic. I do not ask Daniel Day-Lewis Caliber acting in a film like this, but Hayter nails the brutal soap of the character so well. It’s delicious. I could watch him whisk his head to provide a line of dialogue over and over again.

Guyver: Dark Hero becomes serious with a note R

This little endearing stupidity side, Guyver: black heroes Take a much more coherent tone than the previous film, whose humor is easily its worst attribute for several reasons. I am ready to bet the filmmakers behind Guyver: black heroes I wanted to start the film with a mission statement on how it was going to be a simpler vision of the character. This is why the opening scene of Guyver: black heroes is a stereotypical scene but effectively executed “Hero stops a drug affair”, with a violent villain sending.

In addition to the tonal upgrade, Guyver: black heroes is authorized to rupture with his violence, winning a note R on the PG-13 of the first film. And if you like an exaggerated fantastic violence, this film book and book. Part of the attraction of Guyver, from the original manga, is the scandalous levels of violence treated with the zoanoides by the Guyver. The original film never seemed to be completely interested in capturing this aspect, probably due to the fact that it was aimed at this PG-13 note.

Guyver: Dark Hero creates a martial art kick

Fortunately, the rest is also much more a combat film than the first film. In fact, this film is the origin of a performance movement in particular martial arts.

This impressive maneuver was popularized by martial artists like Scott Adkins and is known as Guyver Kick. When your film ends up creating a lasting combat movement in martial arts culture, I have to call it a big victory.

Why I like Guyver: Dark Hero and why you should look at it

Now I’m not here to proclaim Guyver: black heroes like a forgotten masterpiece. It is a tiny film on silly things like extraterrestrial super aies and bug monsters. I love it but I also recognize its innate juvenile nature in something like Guyver: black heroes.

And that’s why I came to kiss Guyver: black heroes Like something from a film Power Rangers. What we know under the name of Power Rangers is part of a long -term series in Japan called Super Sentai, dating from 1975. Super Sentai was created by Shotaro Ishinomori which also created the popular Kamen Rider series, something that has a direct influence on the Guyver.

In addition to this connection, Guyver: black heroes Just works on a basic level of science fiction fantasy fighting to fight pleasure, while not being bogged down by the kind of excruciating drop of things like a horrible CG or a boring child character.

Of course, the villaining baton in pencil could absolutely be better, but I will take it in business for a final zoanoid boss of Guyver which ends up blending into a nightmarish puddle before being exploded by the laser cannon of the guy’s Boob.

Dude, I like movies.

Unfortunately, Guyver: black heroes This does not seem to obtain the love it deserves with regard to availability and conservation. The first film obtained a formidable release of the collector’s edition on Ultra High Definition 4K with many special features for fans. I hope the same thing is in preparation for the future because it is a much better and even more loved film among Guyver fans. I would be happy to contribute because I want everyone to have a chance to see this gem to their best.

I would recommend seeing the two films just because Guyver: black heroes is a direct sequel that does not do the best job to be an entry point for newcomers. Or hey, jump directly in the rest and get to good things.

It’s time for you to run the comments and tell us if you have seen Guyver: black heroesyour thoughts on this subject and others Guyver Media. The 2005 anime is good but I’m not crazy.
