Something strange happens in a galaxy far, far. It relates to the video game “Star Wars Battlefront II”, which was published by EA in 2017. The title served as a result of the Restart “Battlefront” 2015, which was the first big new game in the Disney era of “Star Wars” After closing the Lucasarts Video Game Studio. So why are we talking about a game that came out over seven years ago and has not received an update since 2020? Well, because it is apparently more popular than ever.
In recent weeks, somewhat inexplicably (at least on the surface), “Battlefront II” has absolutely increased in its number of active players, breaking records on Steam. He also broke the number of active players several times, climbing nearly 19,000. Be careful, the record until very recently was closer to 10,000. So, it is very unusual. Although the number of players is not easily available on PlayStation or Xbox platforms, there also seems to be an increase in consoles.

“Battlefront II” was a bit of a mixed bag at the exit. The first “Battlefront” was almost “” Call of Duty “but the fact” Star Wars’ “and Barely resembling classic “Star Wars: Battlefront” games from the early 2000s. Monitoring was considered an improvement in terms of global gameplay, especially since it added a solo campaign. This campaign focused on a new character in the form of the commander of the Imperial Inferno Squad, who discovers a first -rate plot leading to the events of “Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi”. “Battlefront II” even presented a fairly large speech by Palpatine.
The game also encountered some controversy on arrival. EA originally had a “Pay to Play” loot box system which was not greeted by the kindness of the players. This was partially blamed for softer than expected sales at the start. EA finally reversed the course and the game appreciated a relatively healthy life until, on April 28, 2020, it was announced that no new content would be added.
Why does Star Wars Battlefront II increase in popularity now?
It was apparently that. Most of these online games tend to decrease until the players’ account evaporates or until the servers are put offline. However, “Battlefront II” experienced a very improbable return led only by unconditional fans who have rallied to the game. This even includes Muhannad Ben Amor, who played Wilmon in “Andor”, the actor recently sharing his love for the title Instagram.

“Growed up with ‘Battlefront II’ – has been a veteran since the first day. Hopefully ‘Battlefront III’ happens!” The actor wrote, adding that he had already had a huge 469 hours connected in the game. Not for nothing, but “Andor” pulled the Cassian blaster directly from “Star Wars Battlefront”. But I’m getting lost. Anyway, Amor’s comments come to the heart of the question here. Aside from those who grew up playing the game like the veteran of “Andor”, social media campaigns and recent cries around “Battlefront II” apparently aim to try to make Disney and Lucasfilm occur “Battlefront III”.

No plan of this type was announced by EA or Lucasfilm, but this recent increase in interest has not gone unnoticed. “Battlefront II” is, to date, the 12th best -selling game on Steam. It is significant money and significant amounts of real interest. On Reddit Recently, a fan asked which developers said they would return to EA to work on the game offered. Mats Helge Holm, who was involved in the development of “Battlefront II”, sounded with the following:
“Me, and after hearing around my group of ex-colleagues, we want to gather the gang.”
This is the developer side, and it is encouraging for the community of people joining this game. But what about Disney and Lucasfilm? Can this campaign attract enough attention to get them to listen to? Maybe. The comments relating to “Battlefront III” are flooded Tiktok. Be careful, this does not seem to be largely Toxic chatter (at the complaints of some people who did not like “the Last Jedi”) or what do you have; Rather, it seems to be a series of firm requests but polished with fans.
Can Star Wars Battlefront III really occur?
The question is now: will the powers in place be listened to? Can all this interest in “Battlefront II” really help make “Battlefront III”? In short: yes. Everything comes down to money, as these things often do. It may not be in Lucasfilm plans at the immediate moment, but if there is money to be made, these plans can certainly be modified.
Commercially, it could make a lot of sense. If the developer Dice and EA could offer a third satisfactory entry, there are many opportunities. “Battlefront II” has published several renowned updates, including new inventive modes such as “Ewok Hunt” which allow players to track Stormtroopers on Endor. With films like “The Mandalorian and Grogu” And “Star Wars: Starfighter” descending the pipeline, a new video game “Battlefront” could provide an avenue for the DLC on the theme.
A “Star Wars collection: Battlefront Classic” was released last yearAnd he brought together the original games of 2004 and 2005 with some updates. Unfortunately, this release did not go very well. “Star Wars Outlaws” also encountered a somewhat mixed reception and was not sold as well as Ubisoft could have hoped. That said, there is an argument to argue that Disney can meet growing demand here. Admittedly, the development of the game takes years, it would therefore take a while before it materializes. However, a non -insignificant number of fans would be clearly happy to obtain an announcement “Battlefront III”. Your move, Lucasfilm.
