Owen Patrick Joyner is ready to do just about anything when it comes to providing a good killer time.
Warning: spoilers for the final destination: Bloodlines.
Joyner, 24, plays the role of Bobby Campbell Final destination: linesWho struck the rooms on Friday May 15 and is already the film No. 1 in the world. The actor is undoubtedly out of competition in the last episode of the beloved horror comedy franchise, but a bit like his Costars and his predecessors before him, he could not escape his brutally in one of the most offbeat ways.
Joyner receives the honor of death through anaphylaxis in the film, because his character is deadly allergic with nuts. It is actually a kind of nut allergy and transforming in the combo of the skull, but his disappearance begins when he decides to eat a cup of peanut butter in a last attempt to surpass the curse of the death of his family.
Fortunately to Joyner, he is no stranger to deaths related to food – he died by a street hot dog heated to the engine in his series acclaimed by criticism Julie and the Phantoms. Nor is it a stranger to serious nut allergies.
“I brought my real Epipen and we were doing the scene and [directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein] were like: “So, do you know something about [allergies]? Like, have you ever experienced something like that? And I said to myself: ‘Yeah, in fact I brought my epipe!’ ‘Said Joyner US Weekly exclusively. “And I saw a small sparkle in their eyes. I have the impression that it was then that I reserved it. ”
Joyner heard a friend who was also auditioning for Bobby that there was a scene involving an Epipen. His boyfriend also shared on how Lipovsky and Stein liked to make large swings. The staging duo rented a whole set during the presentation of their concept at Warner Bros. In the hope of giving leaders an immersive experience.
“During their pitch director, [Zach and Adam] had a conversation and they were talking to the camera while the back of their fireplace caught fire. And then he spread to the walls, the paintings went to the roof and the whole room was on fire, “said Joyner.” And it turned out that they were in a whole and they had put it all because they were so big fans. “”

Joyner, of course, did not have “money” to create an entire scene, so he worked with his own real experiences – and the effort has clearly paid off. His experience of the sitcom has probably also balanced the pendulum in its own way, as Final destination is known for its unique comedy elements.
This comedy, however, seemed particularly difficult with Lineage As a large part of the plot revolves around a unified unit that dies one by one. Joyner says We It was a “great conversation” between the actors and the creatives to determine all where to land with each great death.
“With family dynamics, it was so different, because it was almost as if it was admitted that people evolved with other films because they were friends. But we have to continue to push,” he said. “Like, how much do we engage if our sister dies or if this person dies within our family?” What depth are we going? “
A huge objective, noted Joyner, was to determine what the public would like above all-“if you lose them, you have already lost the first day,” he said We – But finally, the film chose to rely on humor. This is where improvisation arrived.
“Congratulations to the directors and the creative team because they completely let us go alone,” said Joyner. “We would make two taken by the book and by the lines and then we would make two which were just a little crazy improvisation or as much as they left it. And they would come to us and [say]”Go crazy. Say what you want. So there are crazy images there saying things that don’t work. “”

Like the rest of We Consign the coil of nonsense impatiently, Joyner celebrates what has reached the final modification. Lineage – The sixth film of the franchise – follows a family that realizes that they are part of a death curse of several decades after their parent (Brec Basinger) escaped a tragic accident for years ago. Being part of such a heavy inheritance is a responsibility that Joyner has not taken lightly.
“It’s quite intimidating, you know? Obviously, as an actor, it’s super exciting with a large piece of IP like this … And there are millions of people who love it,” he said. “But at the same time, being 14 and a half years later, they were going to have to reinvent the wheel – but perhaps painting it a little, and changing things for the public. As, a bit of a jet of dice. So I was nervous.”
Joyner was made at ease after seeing the script of Jon Watts,, Lori Evans Taylor And Bagas guy. “And then, of course, [producers] Fear [Perry] And Sheila [Hanahan Taylor]Who created this whole universe, certainly gave me more confidence, “he added.” Obviously, I was going to jump into it. I was not going to leave something like this slide.
Another weight on the shoulders to Joyner? Going from family content to something with a little more bite. The actor made a name for himself on nickelodeon shows like 100 things to do before high school And Squad Knight Before soaking success with the Netflix music series Julie and the Phantoms in 2020.
“I loved every moment of [being on Nickelodeon]Just to make humor and comedy. And then I was lucky after being 19 years old and I entered the Julie and the Phantoms. It looked like a small step, “said Joyner.” As a young actor, you are still nervous. Like: “Can I arrive at a different stage? Even if it’s lateral, can I do something more mature and who grew up? I was not looking for horror, but I was excited to do something that was … a little more risky. »»
While Joyner can be happy to move forward in his job, he is well aware – and constantly grateful – for love Julie and the ghostS receives five years after the series of a season made waves for the first time.
“There are still people who are excited and from time to time, you will see a petition for season 2 and I want to find these people and hug them,” he said. (The actor confirmed that despite the hopes, a second season is “probably not arrived”.)))
Joyner admitted that he did not know Jatp would have the deep effect on the audience he has – rumors have swirled that Netflix did not provide that the series would resonate so deep with older generations – but it felt “quite confident” to be part of a project led by Kenny Orega.
“You can somehow go there”, what do you know? “Obviously, many people are successful [with] him. He is the magic man. I don’t know how to say it else. So I was not so surprised when he was an older group [who loved the show]Because Kenny Ortega began the musical of the school. Then I think he brought us part of this fans base and they accepted us with open arms. »»
The series, which fell in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, followed Julie, 15 years old (Madison Reyes), who, crying the death of his mother, discovers an old CD which brings three adolescent ghosts who died in the 90s in his life. Joyner portrayed Alex: the sensitive and often anxious drummer.
Like his epipe for Final destinationJoyner has exploited his own experience when Alex was bringing to life. “I find that most of my characters end up being anxious because I am anxious. So they are just as,” it works, push this side of you “”, he said, laughing.
Defining an openly queer character was a little more “nervous” to Joyner, who did not know Alex’s sexual identity when he landed the play and wanted to make sure that he was doing justice to the character.
“I remember being nervous, then Kenny called me and I said,” Kenny, if you give me the green light, so I know it’s okay. And he did it, and I think it was important to him, ”recalls Joyner. “He said:” Well, it’s not about him. He is a character with difficulties, but he happens to be queer. Take it and run with, Owen. “And I said,” Ok Kenny, if you say. “”
Joyner’s interpretation clearly paid off, because Alex quickly became a favorite among fans.
“Everyone was so loving and so accepting,” he said We. “It meant a lot for many people, which I did not expect or that I did not know that I would have the honor to be for some people, you know?”
Final destination: lines is in theaters now.
