The Best Star Trek Series That You Probably Haven’t Seen Just Got Canceled

“Star Trek: Prodigy” is dead. Again.

The animated series of brand “Star Trek” from Nickelodeon brand had a raw blow. Sadly famous, the series was broadcast on a strange schedule. His first season of 20 episodes was broadcast in two games, the first part to come in October 2021 and the second part did not fall until the following year. Then, while the second season was still in production, the series was hastily canceled and inexplicably by Paramount, upsetting its continent of slow growth fans. Not only that, “Prodigy” was also confusing from Paramount +which makes it immediately unavailable. It was a surprising decision, because Paramount long held the reins on “Star Trek”, and Trekkies assumed that society would like to keep all the components of its most lucrative franchise close to them.

Its cancellation occurred during a large slaughter in Paramount + which saw the end of most of its “Star Trek” shows. Streaming services had sadly spent during streaming wars and then had to save money as much as possible. Paramount + put Kibosh on all its shows “Star Trek” but one (“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” persists), “Prodigy” being his most visible victim.

The “prodigy” was thrown by Netflix in 2023And Netflix published the second season on July 1, 2024. The second season was well-appreciated, although its release “All or Fad” did not make it possible to grow in mouth.

However, there was a certain hope for “Prodigy”. Because Netflix now had streaming rights on the series, they also had the opportunity to finance and produce a third season of the show. Although it seemed unlikely, a third season was at least possible.

Until today. As indicated by what is on NetflixThe streaming service has had a third season in the series. Not only that, but Netflix plans to withdraw the first two seasons from their service in the near future.

Star Trek: Prodigy continues to die after his death

Located a few decades after the events of “Star Trek: Voyager”, “Prodigy” followed a group of teenagers who had recently fled slavery in a vicious mining colony. In their escape, adolescents – expressed by Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, Jason Mantzoukas, Rylee Alazraqui, Angus Imrie and Dee Bradley Baker – discovered an empty Starfleet ship, the Protostar USS, on an asteroid nearby. The Protostar was equipped with massively powerful, experimental engines for Starfleet, which allowed them to take place clearly through the galaxy. Teaching them to operate the ship and work together as a good crew of Starfleet was A Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) emergency hologram version (Kate Mulgrew).

The series began as an imitation of “Star Wars”, with a dark Dark Vader Android and a cackling character in the shape of an emperor. As he progressed, however, he slowly revealed that the principles of Starfleet were superior to action and battles. The show subtly argued that “Star Trek” was better than “Star Wars”. The two -season series followed complicated conspiracies on time travel and the role that the Protostar played in a complex revenge program of several years.

And, wow, this cast! In addition to Mulgrew, many players known to “Star Trek” returned to resume their roles in vocal form. Robert Picardo returned to play the doctorRobert Beltran returned as Chakotay, and even Ronny Cox returned to play Admiral Jellico. At the end of the series, Wil Wheaton also returned to close the character of Wesley Crusher. In addition, Gates McFadden had a cameo as Dr Beverly Crusher, and Jason Alexander (once a star guest on “Star Trek: Voyager”) had a cameo as a new character.

The show was not widely seen, but it was loved by those who saw it. It was as rich and complex as any series “Star Trek”, even if it was oriented towards a younger audience. Many wanted to see “Prodigy” saved, because it was one of the best new “Star Trek” shows.

Netflix, however, broke our hearts again.
