Thunderbolts* Star Wyatt Russell Was Opposed To That Captain America Joke

“Thunderbolts *” is one of the biggest surprises in the Marvel cinematic universe in recent yearsA rather mature and dark film in its subject and its approach to explore mental health, but also a film full of action with fun sequences and a great sense of humor. As a team film, “Thunderbolts *” lives and dies through its team dynamics, and in this case, this dynamic makes hilarious moments and great jokes.

That being said, all comedy does not work in the film. In particular, although it is not close to the level of a film “Deadpool” or a film MCU of days, “Thunderbolts *” has a few head sewers and references that fall painfully flat or feel forced, as what seems to be A nod to a Christmas action comedy with David Harbor. Then there is the reference to Captain America who even left a bad taste in the mouth of a member of the main distribution.

Speak with Weekly entertainmentWyatt Russell spoke of the moment when John Walker – former Captain America who has changed his nickname in disgrace and now goes by the American agent – try to escape an underground jump with Yelena (Florence Pugh), Ghost (Hannah John -Kamen) and Bob (Lewis Pullman), shouting “to your left!” As a wall opens with its super shield. “It was a line that I did not want to say,” said Russell about the line, which was not even supposed to be a deliberate head sign. “”[Director Jake Schreier] I felt like we needed something to say in ADR (replacement of automated dialogue). It was an ADR-ED line. It is not at all connected. It was just something to fill a void. “”

Thunderbolts * is better than a cheap joke

In case you need a reminder, the “to your left!” Line was heard for the first time in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” when we meet Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). In a scene, we see that Steve Rogers of Chris Evans running in the Capitol reflecting the swimming pool at Washington DC because Steve is, well, a great soldier, he continues to pass Sam again and again, saying “on your left!” While Sam becomes more and more bored. The moment has completed the loop when, in “Avengers: Endgame”, Sam is the one who tells the line to Steve when all those who had disappeared during the Blip returned and joined the final fight against Thanos.

It’s funny to think that John Walker, who obtains a shocking depth in the film, but does not have a big role in history, was at some point as the main villain of “Thunderbolts *” Instead of Sentry. Not that it would not work, but Walker feels much more a television villain than someone who would need an entire team to drop.

The “to your left!” Line was not the only joke to have obtained a complaint from an actor in the main distribution. Bucky has a much more important role in this film than some fans would have thought of it, and he obtains moments of lightness that contrast with his old grumpy man. Example, a time when Bucky uses a dishwasher to clean his prosthetic arm, that Sebastian Stan found deeply funny. However, the show must continue, then the actor went ahead with the scene, and he reached the final cup.

All the jokes in “Thunderbolts *” do not work, but it is difficult not to think at least of top superiors working on the film which somewhat cares not to have jokes or light moments in a film on mental health and a guy who evaporates children and transforms them into shadows because he is depressed.
